NEW DELHI, Nov 13: The Supreme Court on Monday gave six weeks’ time to the central Government to file a detailed affidavit on their stand on Ram Setu case.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, was hearing the submissions and arguments of the petitioner, Dr Subramaniam Swamy in the case.
The Central Government now will have to clarify it’s stand, if they want to remove Ram Setu or to protect it. Petitioner, Dr Swamy told the apex court three-judge bench, headed by the CJI, Misra that the Central Government had clarified it’s position in Parliament that it will protect Ram Setu but the Union of India has not filed an affidavit in the Apex Court yet in the case.
The Ram Setu case last came up for hearing was in 2015, when the Central Government had told the top court it will clarify it’s position, but that has not been done yet. So, on Monday, the Union of India has sought more time for the same to file its reply in the case. (UNI)
