NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre and others and sought a detailed response from them on a plea alleging sharp rise in child trafficking cases during Covid-19 lockdown.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde was hearing the petition filed by NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolon (BBA) seeking appropriate directions to stop child trafficking during the lockdown.
Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta appeared for the Central government, whereas the petitioner was represented by HS Phoolka. Phoolka told the Apex Court that there is a sharp increase in child trafficking cases during the lockdown and the Apex Court should pass appropriate orders on the petition.
The Apex Court also asked the SG to sit with the petitioner and try to find out the ways and means to find out solutions in the matter. The Apex Court fixed the matter for further hearing after two weeks. (AGENCIES)
