SC notice to Centre, MCI over not giving permission to set up medical college

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre and the Medical Council of India (MCI) and sought their response within three weeks on establishing a medical college.

The apex court issued notice after hearing a petition by Maulana Jauhar University challenging the MCI’s decision that the varsity could not establish a medical college.

A vacation bench, headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud and comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, issued notice and sought a reply within three weeks.

Jauhar Trust, managing the University, has alleged that due process was not followed while rejecting its request. Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Minister Azam Khan is also one of the trustees in the Jauhar Trust. (AGENCIES)
