NEW DELHI : SC allows CBI’s appeal in Babri mosque demolition case and restores criminal conspiracy charge against L K Advani & other BJP leaders. SC orders joint trial of two separate cases against Advani, M M Joshi, Uma Bharti & unknown ‘karsevaks’ in Lucknow. SC directs Lucknow court to conduct trial in these cases on a day-to-day basis without granting adjournment.
SC directs CBI to ensure that some prosecution witnesses appear in trial court for recording of testimony.
SC orders that trial judge hearing the Babri case will not be transferred till the judgement is delivered.
SC directs Lucknow trial court to commence proceedings in 4 weeks & makes it clear that there will be no de novo trial.
SC says its order should be followed in letter and spirit and grants liberty to parties to approach apex court if its directions are not followed. (PTI)
