SC rules women can be make-up artists in film industry

NEW DELHI, Nov 10: Supreme Court today struck down a law debarring females from becoming make-up artists in Bollywood.   Declaring the 80-year-old law as discriminatory illegal and unconstitutional, the top court ruled that its two clauses violated fundamental rights to equality and also freedom of profession guaranteed under Article 14 and Article 19 (G) of the Constitution of India.

Article 14 makes it mandatory for the State not to discriminate on the basis of caste, religion, creed or gender. (UNI)
