No impact of Bharat Bandh in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 21: A peaceful protest was organised by all SC and ST organisations at Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk here in connection with country-wide Bharat Bandh call given by the Central bodies regarding an advisory issued by Supreme Court of India for caste classification and creamy layer.
The members of various organizations of the SC/ST and some OBC bodies assembled at Ambedkar Chowk and started protest demonstration. They were carrying banners and placards with slogans. They were opposing directions of the Apex Court denying reservation benefits to the people of the SC and ST communities having income above Rs 8 lakh per annum. The Apex Court in its advisory had suggested that by according benefit again and again to the well established SC/ST families having income even more than rupees one lakh per month, will be great injustice with those having very low income. The share of the children of lower middle class/BPL category of these castes, is being snatched by the well established families and this system needs amendment.
The impact of Bharat Bandh was almost nil in Jammu city and other major towns as markets were opened and the transport was plying normally.
Before the protest homage was paid to all the 13 martyred of April 2, 2018 during Bharat Bandh. The presidents/chairpersons of different organizations said that provisions of Reservation may be included in the 9th Schedule of Constitution of India. They also requested the Prime Minister of India to call Parliament session for constitutional Amendment of advisory issued by Apex Court of India for classification of caste and abolish creamy layer rider.
Prominent among those leading various organizations of SC/ ST /OBC included Prof G L Thapa – working president of JKRCEA, Mohinder Bhagat- working president JKRCEA and president of All J and K Bhagat Mahasangh, Sham Lal Basson, State president All J and K Dalit Chetna Manch, R K Kalsotra, president All India Confederation of SC /ST/OBC organisations, Prof Kali Dass, general secretary All India Backward Classes Union, FC Satia, president All India Backward Classes Federation and State general secretary of All J & K Prajapati Sabha, Kewal Krishan Fotra, president All J&K Sain Sain Samaj Sabha, Balwant Kataria, general secy All India Federation of Backward Classes and Incharge Vishavkarma Library, Sunita Bangotra president All J&K Samitri Bai Phule Mahila Sangathan, ND Bhagat, president All J&K Megh Sabha and others.
The representatives of different organizations submitted memorandum to Prime Minister of India and the President of India through Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
Meanwhile, BSP state unit, Congress and several other organizations have supported the cause of SC/ST/OBC bodies.
