SC/ST/OBC organisations anguish over increasing ‘atrocities’ on Dalits

JAMMU, July 8: SC/ST/OBC organisations have expressed concern over alleged increasing atrocities on SCs and STs at national level and within J&K.
In a press conference here today Sham Lal Basson, president All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch said that Pravesh Shukla, representative of BJP MLA has urinated on Dashmat Rawat Aadhivasi youth leaving all to feel ashamed and the CM of Madhya Pradesh washed feet of Rawat to apologized the wrong act.
Basson also referred to another similar act where six persons from other caste victimised a Dalit youth at Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh.
“No doubt house of Shukla was demolished by MP administration but people are not changing their behaviour towards SCs and STs,” he further said.
Sham Lal also cited the case of death of Prof. Chander Shekhar in Jammu University and said that SIT constituted in this regard has not given its report till date.
He further said that one Bittu Ram Bhagat from Ramban was allegedly beaten severely by youths from other caste and the Police has not arrested the accused yet and not even registered a case in this regard.
Basson lauded the prompt action of Nowshera Police for registering a case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arresting Balvinder Kumar for abusing a particular caste.
Prof. Chaman Shivgotra, Rajat Ramit, Prithvi Singh, Raj Kumar Chalotra from All India Backward Classes Union and others were also present in the press conference.
