SC/ST/OBCs take out protest rally to press for demands

JAMMU, Mar 5: Protesting 13 point roster in universities whereby the deprived lot shall be ousted from the constitutional benefits in the universities and for implementation of 200 point roster, non implementation of Forest Rights Act in letter and spirit, caste based atrocities against SC/ST/OBC’s and minorities, All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations along with other organizations organized a massive rally at Jammu.
The rally was organized in the support of Bharat Bandh call for today. Beginning from Valmiki Temple Gandhi Nagar, at 4 pm, the rally culminated at Dr Ambedkar Chowk.
Participants included the cadre from the All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, Adhi Dharam Samaj, Valmeki Sabha Gandhi Nagar, Majdoor Dastkar Union, Valmeki Dharam Samaj, All J&K OBC Mahasabha, JK Gujjar Bakarwal Federation, Jammu Muslim Front, NSOSYF J&K and people from all walks of society.
While addressing the gathering, Kalsotra raised the issue of implementation of Mandal Commission report and grant of 27 percent reservation for the deprived OBC population of the State. He said even after seventy years of independence the OBC population is suffering deprivation at every level of inclusion in the mainstream. He criticized the successive Governments for evading granting constitutional rights to OBCs but simultaneously granting extra constitutional reservations to the rich and the mighty.
In the same vein, Kalsotra stressed upon granting permanent resident rights to Valmiki community which was brought to the State during the time of dire need. He said notwithstanding Article 370 or any other provisions this community deserves to be granted permanent residentship rights in the State.
He further said Forest Rights Act yet to be implemented in J&K for tribals who are routinely tortured. “PoK refugees who mostly belonging to SC & OBC are yet to get rights in the State while minorities are under threat and their immovable properties are being burnt down,” he said, adding their movement will continue to expose these types of elements.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Shuja Zaffar Khan, Vijay Anarya, Garu Bhatti, Shashi Syal, Bansi Lal, Shoukat Gujjar, Qazi Imran, Surjit Kumar Bhagat, Mohd Shafi Bajjad, Ashok Thappa and Dev Anand.
