JAMMU, June 17: The All J&K SC and ST Retired Employees Forum has strongly condemned the remarks of Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra against the reservation to SC/ST/OBC category.
“Prof Jain has passed these sweeping remarks against reservation policy enshrined in the Constitution of India for the SC, ST, OBC and other sections of the society who are deprived of their human rights and suffered for centuries together,” said S S Sarangal, retired Principal & District Sessions Judge and president of the Forum, while addressing a press conference, here today.
He appealed the Prime Minister of India, Governor as well as Chief Minister of J&K to take strong note of the remarks of Prof Jain and ensure suitable action against the VC.
Privilege of reservation to certain categories of the society is available not in charity but the same has been granted as their legitimate right by the framers of Indian Constitution as in their wisdom, the weaker sections of the society like SC, ST and OBC deserve reservation in education and Government jobs so that their social as well as economic standard could be improved,” Judge Sarangal maintained.
Sewa Dass Digra, a senior member of the Forum, alleged that the statement of Mr Jain against the reservation policy was biased, which also seems to have been the reason behind non-implementation of reservation in SMVDU Katra so far.
Others, who were present in the press conference, included Mohan Lal Hans, Dr O P Bhagat, Kesar Singh, Prof G L Bhagat, V D Taryal, G L Lakhnotra, Dr G L Thappa, H R Phonsa, Harbans Lal, C L Banal, K D Salalia and T C Bavouria.
