NEW DELHI: Karti Chidambaram, an accused in the INX media case, on Thursday approached the Supreme Court seeking its direction and permission to travel abroad again from January 10-20 for business purposes and meetings.
Karti, the son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the Congress-led UPA Government, is allegedly involved in the FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) clearance for Rs 305-crore irregular foreign direct investment (FDI) in the INX Media in 2007, the CBI, the investigating agency, claimed.
The apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, said, on Thursday, it would hear Karti’s plea on January 8, Monday.
The Supreme Court’s three-judge bench, headed by CJI Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, had passed the earlier order on November 20, 2017, and allowed Karti to go abroad from December 1-10 for the purpose of his daughter’s admission in the UK with certain terms and conditions.
The top court had in its earlier order also made certain terms and conditions for his travel abroad by stating that Karti had to follow and abide the terms and conditions imposed by the apex court.
The top court also had directed Karti to give the undertaking to the court that he would return back as per its order. “If he does not come back to India after the said period, he will be liable to face contempt of court,” the apex court had said in its order. (AGENCIES)
