Sir,
Improved water supply, sanitation and hygiene are central to ensuring the rights of children. In fact, it is essential for children to survive, grow and develop into healthy and fulfilled citizens of the Nation. But what is happening is shocking. Due to poor hygienic conditions and contaminated water children under five years remain vulnerable to diseases. skin and eye infections are likely to. Inadequate water supply and sanitation facilities in schools discourage children to attend schools regularly and not achieve their educational goals. Adolescent girls are especially vulnerable to dropping out because toilet facilities are not private, not safe or simply not available. Women and girls face shame and loss of personal dignity and safety risk if there is no toilet at home.
Government of India has started many Centrally sponsored flagship programmes like Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Integrated Child Development Scheme, National Health Mission, Swacch Bharat Mission, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, which are being implemented by the State government affecting directly indirectly the challenge of measurable results for all children, especially those belonging to socially disadvantaged and marginalized communities. But what is required is a strong convergence between these programmes, developing a unified action plan for implementation and securing the future of children.
Yours etc….
