JAMMU, Apr 23: Underscoring the need to utilize geo-mapping in education planning, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that school mapping is an important planning technique which aids in distributing educational facilities across different geographical locations and helps to promote faster progress of education.
He said main objective of the mapping is to equalize educational opportunities by leveling out the existing inequalities in distribution of the facilities across the state.
“Exact geo-spatial survey would go a long way in addressing the present as well as futuristic requirements in the field of school education and would make possible the availability of up-to-date information about schools with the click of a mouse button,” he added.
Mr. Tara Chand chaired a high level meeting to review the implementation of school mapping project in the school education department, here today. A power present presentation was also given on the occasion.
MoS, School Education Feroz Khan was present in the meeting.
Secretary, School Education Hirdesh Kumar, Director, School Education, Jammu P.K. Pole and senior officers of remote sensing and education department also attended the meeting.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the project would be implemented through J&K Remote Sensing department and directed for doing a comprehensive exercise to ensure full coverage of the state with regard to schools and facilities offered in them.
He said the project should be completed with in two months time and all details be made available on the web based maps, adding that the project would be linked with the goggle map for easy location of all the schools.
