Kashmir valley has received spells of heavy incessant rainfall since Sunday inundating many low lying areas and triggering flood like situation.

“We have decided to close all the educational institutions on April 30 after making a field assessment as a precautionary measure”, Bidhuri told the media in Srinagar on Monday.
He also cautioned the people not to venture out especially near the water bodies, only when it would be necessary.
The Divisional Commissioner said the water level in river Jhelum is still below the danger mark and authorities are monitoring the situation constantly. All concerned officers are present on the ground and will be available 24×7, he said.
“All the concerned officers will remain on duty tonight as if there is any emergency they will tackle the situation accordingly”, Bidhuri said.
He said that Phuru nalla in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district crossed the danger mark after 1992 following heavy rainfall overnight and today.
“Except Phuru, the water level in other points including Ram Munshi Bagh is still below danger mark,” Bidhuri said.
However, Vishow nallah in south Kashmir district of Kulgam has touched the danger mark level. People are being asked to take precautions from visiting near the vishow nallah, the Divisional Commissioner said.
“We are constantly taking data from the IMD and we have been told that the rainfall will continue till midnight tonight and thereafter the precipitation will gradually come down”, he said.
Bidhuri said “there is a possibility of rainfall tomorrow afternoon also but the intensity will not be severe. The water level is likely to increase and maybe it will touch the danger mark during midnight tonight”. He said there is nothing to worry as we have enough buffers with us.
He said the Kupwara and Uri road has been closed due to landslides. As it is raining there clearance of roads could not be taken up. Once the rain stops, we will put our men there to restore the road. Sopore road was also closed due to overflowing of rain water.
