JAMMU, Oct 10: The office of Dean Research Studies, in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, organised a one-day ‘Scientific and Technical Outreach Programme’ in the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium of Jammu University, here today.
JU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Umesh Rai was the chief guest of the programme. He highlighted the need for such programmes for the development of scientific attitudes among students. He also congratulated the BARC members for organising such an outstanding event in collaboration with the University of Jammu.
The programme started with a preliminary quiz, followed by an inaugural session, a series of lectures, interactive sessions, skits, and a final quiz.
Head, Emergency Preparedness and Response Section, BARC, Dean Research Studies, Professor Anju Bhasin, during her address, emphasised the need for such collaborative programmes in light of national education policy.
The outreach programme consisted of a series of lectures by delegates of BARC on topics such as `Radiation safety in health and environment’ by R K B Yadav, `Nuclear reactors’ by S Mondal, `Food irradiation technology: A need of the hour’ by R K Mishra and `Innovation and opportunities in BARC’ by Heema Rao.
The outreach programme was attended by 170 students and scholars from various Science departments. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre presented participation certificates to all the participants, whereas three quiz winners were presented with awards.
Professor Satya Paul from the Department of Chemistry concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.
