HYDERABAD, Apr 7 : South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a historic milestone by registering its highest-ever Gross Originating Revenue of Rs 20,452 crore in the financial year 2024-25, continuing its exceptional performance for the third consecutive year.
This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous best of Rs 20,335 crore recorded in 2023-24 and Rs 18,973 crore in 2022-23. The consistent growth is attributed to strong performances in both the freight and passenger segments, an SCR statement said on Monday.
A major contributor to this record was the focused thrust on freight operations.
SCR adopted a customer-centric approach, emphasizing the diversification of traffic streams and enhancing the existing commodity basket.
The Zone made significant efforts in the development of freight infrastructure, ensured the availability of wagons, closely monitored the path and movement of freight trains, and improved the operational environment at goods sheds
These initiatives, along with supportive policy measures, helped SCR achieve its highest-ever originating freight loading of 144.10 million tonnes and a freight revenue of Rs 13,825 crore, reflecting a 2 per cent increase over the previous year’s figures of 141.12 million tonnes and Rs 13,620 crore respectively.
The passenger segment also saw substantial growth. SCR continuously monitored passenger demand and responded effectively by introducing new and special trains, as well as augmenting existing ones with additional coaches.
During FY 2024-25, approximately 3,500 special trains were operated, and over 10,000 extra coaches were attached to various express trains to meet the surge in passenger demand. These efforts resulted in originating passenger revenue of Rs 5,710 crore, with 263.2 million originating passengers being carried, slightly up from 262.5 million in 2023-24.
SCR also recorded its best-ever revenue of Rs 513.6 crore in the other coaching segment, which includes earnings from parcel services and ticket checking. Additionally, sundry earnings such as revenue from parking, catering, and advertisements amounted to Rs 402.7 crore.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, commended the efforts of the officers and staff for this remarkable accomplishment.
He expressed great satisfaction and said it was a proud moment for the entire SCR team to achieve the best-ever revenue performance in FY 2024-25.
He added that this achievement brings with it a greater responsibility, and the Zone remains committed to delivering consistent results in the future as well.
