Screening camp for breast, cervical cancer organized

JAMMU, May 14: A free camp for screening of breast and cervical cancer was organized today at KCV Diagnostic Centre, Gandhi Nagar, by Consultant Radiologist Dr Shikha Chowdhary.
Chief spokesperson of J&K BJP Mahila Morcha, Ritika Trehan was the chief guest of the camp. While speaking on the occasion, she said,”There was a time when if a serious ailment struck a poor person, he had to sell his entire property and land to get the treatment. Our Government has given thrust on several such aspects to provide healthcare for the poor at doorstep and at cheap rates under the flagship scheme Aayushman Bharat.”
Dr Shikha Choudhary, Dr Pooja Kawte (Pediatrician), Dr Shabnum (Pathologist and GP), Dr Sumedha Mengi (Pathologist), Dr Jahanara (Gynaecologist), Dr Indu Gupta (Eye Specialist) and Dr Bhardwaj (Pathologist and GP) examined a number of patients visiting the camp. Besides doing screening for breast and cervical cancer, they also educated them regarding these diseases.
In the camp, diagnosis service and tests like mammogram, bone densitometry, PAP Smear, PSA, Oral Screening, complete blood count and others were conducted free of costs.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shikha said with screening at an appropriate age (25 and above), cancer can be apprehended at early stage when it is treatable with no financial and emotional burden on patient and its family.
She said that latest machinery using principles of contact thermography and artificial intelligence have been introduced in KCV Diagnostic Centre, where tests are done on very affordable rates and regular free camps are held for poor.
The Camp was supported by Ritika Trehan and various social groups viz. Gandhi Global Family and Rashtriya Hindu Kalyan Sangathan. Chairman KCIS and Zone By Park also supported the Camp.
