SRINAGAR, July 6: Media persons today staged a protest against the new Media Policy issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
They said that the policy is not meant for the upliftment of the media in the Union Territory; rather it is akin to destroy the fourth pillar of democracy.
“We don’t want to be dictated, rather we should be allowed to write what is truth,” they said.
They said that it is anti-Media Policy, while alleging that not a single person from the media fraternity was consulted when the policy was being framed.
“These are some bureaucrats who have formulated the policy in order to save their skin; they have got their vested interests in it,” they said. Click here to watch video
The scribes said that the Government is trying to make us write whatever suits them and not the truth. “They want us to write about development, we will sure write about that when that happens, but we have got a responsibility of bringing to fore what is truth,” they said.
They said that they are not ready to follow the diktats of the government. “Let them then shut our newspapers, but we will not toe their line, we have to write whatever is truth,” they said.
