JAMMU, Dec 18: Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations today decided to gherao State Assembly on January 16, 2017 to press for their demands.
Addressing a press conference, Confederation president, RK Kalsotra, expressed great resentment on Government’s negative approach towards their memorandum of demands submitted by the Confederation on November 7.
Besides Kalsotra, vice presidents, general secretaries, representatives of districts and tehsils bodies, leaders of SC/ST/OBC communities and other office bearers were also present. Kalsotra said that their demands include restoration of reservation in promotions, clearing backlog of vacancies through special recruitment drives for 23000 SC posts, 16000 ST posts and 5000 OBC/SEBC posts, waiver of admission fees for students belonging to eligible SC/ST/OBC and poor students and implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs.
Our demands include enhancement of income slab for the OBCs at par with that at the Centre for creamy layer, State budgetary allocation for special component plan for SCs and STs and ad equate utilization thereof along with provisions for accountability as well as for stopping diversion thereof for general purposes, providing shelter homes to the nomads, poor and deprived, providing equal opportunities to SC/ST/OBCs in posting and transfers, political reservation to STs.
Elucidating on the issue, Kalsotra expressed anguish over the casual manner in which the Government had taken the charter of demands submitted by the Confederation. “If the Government derelicts to extend a patient consideration to the demands projected by the Confederation, there will be no option available with Confederation except resorting to protests”, he said, adding, in this direction gherao of Assembly on January 16, 2017 shall be the first move.
