JAMMU, Oct 28: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a charge sheet against one individual in Rs 10 lakh fraud case.
A Crime Branch official said that SSP Crime Wing, Sandeep Mehta, has filed a charge-sheet in case FIR number 15/2023 under section 420 of the IPC registered at Police Station SCW Crime Branch Jammu against Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Baramulla, currently putting up in Jammu, for allegedly deceiving two complainants, Mumtaz Ahmed and Parveiz Ahmed from Mendhar, Poonch, by promising them Government jobs as Class-IV employees in lieu of the money.
Quoting the investigation, he said, Gurpreet Singh convinced the victims to pay Rs 10 lakh over multiple installments, assuring them he could manipulate answer sheets with the help of friends in the SSRB.
“The bank statements confirmed these transactions,” he said.
Following a preliminary verification, the Crime Branch official said the allegations were substantiated, and a formal case was registered against the accused.
The investigation, led by Deputy SP Anita Katel, ultimately confirmed the fraud, he said, adding that accordingly, the Crime Branch team produced the accused in court, where the charge-sheet was filed before the Municipal Magistrate of Jammu for further judicial action.
In another fraud case under FIR number 21 of 2023, the SCW also filed a charge sheet against Gulzar Ahmed Wani for allegedly cheating a complainant by falsely offering JDA land and a Government job.
Additionally, in a case of impersonation and cheating under FIR number 11 of 2022, the SCW arrested Mohammad Imran Khan from Mendhar, Poonch, who had been absconding.
Imran Khan allegedly impersonated a Junior Engineer (JEE) with ERA J&K and duped Inderjit Singh Raju from Ramban out of Rs 5 lakh, claiming he could secure him a job in ERA.
Further investigation in this case is ongoing, said the Crime Branch official.
Meanwhile, the SSP SCW Crime Branch Jammu has urged the public to exercise caution in land transactions and to verify documents with authorities.
He also warned citizens to be wary of fraudulent job offers requiring payments.
