SRINAGAR, July 19: Taking serious note of the mushrooming of illegal housing colonies in and around Srinagar city, the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) today ordered immediate halting of construction work in such colonies that are coming up unlawfully within the limits of the Srinagar Master Plan local area.
According to Vice Chairman SDA, Farooq Ahmad Renzu Shah, the Department constituted a special squad headed by Secretary of the Authority that would monitor such activities on day-to-day basis. The squad has been authorized to initiate action against such colonizers and colonies instantaneously which are coming up illegally.
The SDA has asked the intending developers and colonizers to seek proper permission from the concerned authorities including SDA before embarking on any housing project so that the same is in consonance with the guidelines laid down in the Srinagar Master Plan (2000-2021).
The SDA has also asked the general public not to fall prey to the business maneuvers of such colonizers and developers who are carrying on their activities illegally and whenever anybody intends to make investment in such colonies he/she should first approach the SDA to check the legal status of the colony.
SDA has also urged the Power Development, Public Health Engineering (PHE), R&B and UEE Departments not to provide electricity, drinking water and drainage facilities to such colonies that are coming up illegally.
