SRINAGAR: A massive search operation has been launched in the woods in north Kashmir district of Bandipora after some gunshots were heard, official sources said.
They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and State police personnel launched a joint operation in the woods at Pathra Bakar in Bandipora this afternoon.
However, when the security forces were moving deep into the forest, some firing shots were heard. Later reinforcement was rushed from nearby camps and a massive operation has been launched. So far no contact was established with militants, they said, adding the entire area will remain under cordon to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
But, they said due to darkness, search has been stopped only to resume with the first light tomorrow. Further details are awaited, they said. (AGENCIES)
