Search operation launched in north Kashmir

 

SRINAGAR: A massive search operation has been launched in the frontier district of Kupwara where a group of militants is hiding in the woods, official sources said here today.

They said acting on a tip off, Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation in the woods at Gujjarpati in north Kashmir district of Kupwara. There was so far no contact with the militants who could have escaped deep into the forest, they said adding troops from adjoining camps have also joined the operation.

Sources believe that two to four militants are hiding in the woods in the frontier district, where six militants were killed during the past two months in three different encounter while a militant died due to cold.

Colonel Santosh Mahadik of 41 Rashitriya Rifle (RR) and a soldier also lost their lives while a Lt Col was injured. (UNI)
