Search operation resumes in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR :  Search operation was resumed with the first light in the woods of Handwara in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara after gunshots were heard from the area last evening.
Official sources said the gunshots were heard from Bawan forest area in Rajwar in Kupwara late last evening following which a search operation was launched by security forces.
However, the operation was halted last night due to darkness since the forest is very dense.

With the first light this morning, troops have resumed the operation against the militants, reportedly four to five trapped in the woods.
The search operation in the district comes just five days after Commanding Officer (CO) of 41 RR Colonel Santosh Mahadik was killed and five personnel were injured when they were attacked by militants during a search operation in Sabhaya Benak forest of Haihama in Kupwara.  (UNI)
