JAMMU, Feb 21: The three day long second phase of pulse polio immunization drive commenced across the State.
The second round of the pulse polio immunization campaign was launched by Dr MK Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department at PHC Mishriwala, Block Kot Bhalwal by administering pulse polio drops to the children. He was accompanied by Director Health Services Jammu Dr BS Pathania, Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization J&K Dr Baldev Raj Sharma, Project Director J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mission Director NHM J&K Mohan Singh and other officers of the department.
The second round of pulse polio immunization campaign was held across the Jammu Division. The health workers administered the polio drops at their respective booths. The mobile and transit teams were all pressed into service. Mobile teams provided the polio drops to the children living in the slums, brick kilns and other habitations, where labour class resides. As per preliminary reports received from the districts of Jammu Division, 82 per cent children have been immunized on the first day of the second round of the campaign.
RAMBAN: As many as 64000 children below the age group of five years were covered under the Intensive Pulse Polio (IPP) Vaccination drive in Ramban district. The district administration has setup 420 pulse polio vaccination booths, and deployed over 2000 workers, 85 numbers of supervisors, 8 numbers of mobile units.
POONCH: District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Harun Malik in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr Mumtaz Bhatti administered the polio vaccine to a baby at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital under polio immunization drive in the district.
KATHUA: The second round of IPP was started by the District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar by administering the polio drops to a baby at District Hospital. A total of 75082 children of all the blocks of the district were covered under the Pulse Polio Immunization drive (Day 1) with achieving the target of 81 percent.
SAMBA: MLA Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal formally launched the pulse polio immunization drive at District Hospital. Over 38313 children were administered polio drops achieving the target of 77.86 percent.
Doda: The pulse polio campaign was inaugurated by CMO Dr Kulbhushan at district Hospital. 78 percent of target has been achieved on the first day of the campaign by administering polio drops to 62,992 children. A total of 592 booths have been setup by the health department with mobile units to cover the children of designated age group.
KISHTWAR: A total of 30665 children were administered polio drops during the first day of pulse polio immunization drive. CMO inaugurated the campaign at District Hospital. Heath Department has set up 368 booths for the campaign.
REASI: About 45,000 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered polio drops. As many as 364 booths were set up by the department.
KATRA: With the collaboration of 6th Battalion CRPF and SMVD Shrine Board, the second round of pulse polio immunization campaign was inaugurated by Additional SP Katra Sameer Kotwal in presence of Second Incharge CRPF Yad Ram Bonkar, Deputy Commandant CRPF Ved Ram Jakhar, Deputy CMO Reasi Dr KC Dogra, BMO Katra Dr Gopal Dutt and staff members at Darshni Deodi Banganga, Katra.
UDHAMPUR: ADC Angrez Singh Rana administered the polio drops to a baby under intensive pulse polio immunization drive round 2 at District Hospital. A total of 75476 children were administered polio drops. The department has set up 543 vaccination booths in different parts of the district to cover 87110 children of 0-5 years for vaccination in the district during the campaign.
SRINAGAR: District Development Commissioner Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone inaugurated the IPPI programme by administering polio drops to children at JLNM hospital, Rainawari. Nearly 1,77000 children are being covered in the district for which 2500 employees and volunteers were deputed in 645 pulse-polio booths. Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr Sameer Mattoo, Deputy Director Family Welfare and other officers from Health Department were present on the occasion.
BUDGAM: DDC, Mir Altaf Ahmad inaugurated the second phase of pulse polio immunization with CMO at the district hospital. About 1,01533 children are to be covered under the programme in the district for which 2253 manpower comprising health workers, ASHA workers, ICDS workers and voluntaries have been deployed at 563 booths including seven transit teams.
GANDERBAL: DDC, Showkat Aijaz Bhat gave oral polio vaccine to a baby in the District Hospital. Nearly 40698 children are being covered under this programme and 227 vaccination booths have been set up for the purpose besides 957 employees have been deployed for the immunization programme.
KULGAM: Additional Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnania launched the anti-polio campaign by administering vaccine to a newly born at the District Hospital here. About 89118 children of below 5 years of age are the target of the drive for which about 505 polio booths have been setup.
ANANTNAG: DDC, Muneer-ul-Islam launched the drive to eradicate the polio disease in the district by administering drops to children at District Childcare and Maternity hospital here in which 1, 34229 children will be immunized. For successful conduct of the drive 2468 employees comprising 1213 health workers, 588 ASHA workers, 482 Anganwari workers and 100 volunteers have been deployed at 617 booths.
PULWAMA: Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, inaugurated the IPPI campaign at old District Hospital. About 85979 children are being covered under the programme in Pulwama for which 1780 personal of Health Department have been deployed at 445 vaccination booths.
SHOPIAN: Deputy Commissioner, G M Dar administered polio drops to children at the District Hospital. As many as 42520 children are the target for the drive for which 890 personals have been deployed at 205 pulse polio centres.
BARAMULLA: DDC Yasha Mudgal inaugurated the IPPI drive by administering the oral vaccine to a baby in the District Hospital. A total of 154190 children are to be immunized in the Baramulla district for which 3380 members including volunteers were deputed at 854 vaccination booths. About 169 persons supervised the 1690 teams for the purpose.
BANDIPORA: DDC Sajad Hussain inaugurated the 2nd drive of IPPI programme at the District Hospital in which 60,450 children are the target of the programme for which 1300 employees have been deputed at 315 polio centres.
