Second round of IPPI prog launched across State

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Apr 2: The second round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) programme was launched across the State.
JAMMU: The second round of IPPI programme was launched by Dr MK Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar by administering pulse polio drops to the children (0-5 years). He was accompanied by Dr Gurjeet Singh Soodan, Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Sameer Mattoo, Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization J&K/Project Director JKAIDS Prevention and Control Society, Dr Madhuri Gupta, Medical Superintendent Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Dr AD Singh, State Malariologist, Chief Medical Officer Jammu Dr Robinder Khajuria, Dr ADS Manhas, Deputy CMO Jammu, Dr Chaman Bhasin DHO Jammu, Dr Sanjay Turki DIO Jammu and other officers and officials of the department. A large number of people had gathered in the hospital premises to get their children immunized against Polio disease. In his address, Commissioner Secretary apprised that the Health and Family Welfare Department has made extensive arrangements to give 100 per cent immunization coverage to all the children in 0 to 5 years age group in the second phase of IPPI. He apprised that Health Department has established thousands of booths, hundreds of transit camps and mobile teams to provide OPV drops to almost 878312 children falling within the age group of 0-5 years. More than 45 thousand workers from Health Department, ICDS, ASHAs and other volunteer workers will be indulging in booth and house-to-house activities for 3 days from today and will be subsequently supervised as well. As per preliminary reports received from the districts of Jammu division, 717453 (82 per cent approximately) children have been immunized on the pulse polio booths in Jammu division on the first day of the second round of the IPPI campaign.
KATRA: The second round of IPPI programme was inaugurated by SDM Katra Neelam Khajuria in the presence of BMO Katra Gopal Dutt, Deputy Commandant CRPF, SMVDSB Manager Sham Singh and staff members at Darshani Gate Base Camp Katra. BMO Katra Dr Gopal Dutt explained that in Block Katra main focus is on the children of pilgrims for which seven transit booths have been established. To cover the local population, 62 pulse polio booths in whole of the Block are established, he said, adding that during second Round of IPPI programme, more than 11000 children are expected.
SAMBA: Lions Club Samba organised IPPI programme at new bus stand in collaboration with District Health Society Samba in which 175 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administrated pulse polio drops. SHO Samba Yashpal Singh and President Lions Club Samba Amardeep Singh were also present. Among others present were Inder Singh, Surinder Mishra, Rajnish Anand, Vikas Gupta, Advocate Vijay Gupta, Rohit Pargal, Prince Anand, Ashok, Varinder Singh, Sita Ram Sampolia and Pawan Verma.
KISHTWAR: Thousands of children were administered pulse polio vaccines in various areas of the district.
Dr Daizy Parihar, District Immunization Officer Kishtwar said that teams have been deployed across the district to immunize the children. She also said many vaccination booths were put in place.
KASHMIR: On the first day of second round of IPPI programme against the target of 1071000 children, a total of 971793 were administered bivalent oral polio vaccine drops. This amounts to 91 per cent target coverage on day 1. Earlier Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman today inaugurated second round of IPPI programme at JLNM Hospital, Rainawari, Srinagar. Around 10.71 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 5yrs will be administered Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine drops across Kashmir Division. In Kashmir Division, around 5770 booths have been set up, 1150 supervisors and 23000 health workers have been assigned the task. Anganwari workers from Social Welfare Department are also working in close coordination with Health and Family Welfare Department for pulse polio programme. Booth day activity will be followed by two days house to house activity for the left over children in the said age group. Transit points at bus stands and railway stations have also been set up. Dr Yangchan Dolma SEPIO J&K, CMO Srinagar Dr Bashir Malik and other officers and officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Similar inaugural pulse polio events were organized at district and block levels wherein respective District Development Commissioners administered OPV drops to the kids.
Tomorrow house to house activity will be undertaken to immunize left out, out of reach and hard to reach areas. The focus will also be laid by the workers on house to house marking so that no child is left unimmunized and identifying missing children from immunization process.
SHOPIAN: The IPPI phase-II campaign commenced today with District Development Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad Qadri administering oral vaccines to children at district hospital. It was said that 43370 children in the age group of 0-5 years are the target of the immunization drive for which 215 pulse polio centres have been established and 900 personnel of the Health Department along with supervisors have been deployed for carrying out the drive successfully.
GANDERBAL: District Development Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Ganai, accompanied by ADC Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari kick-started the programme by administering pulse polio drops to newborns at District Hospital Ganderbal.. Approximately 45504 children were covered under theprogramme and 227 vaccination booths have been set up for the purpose, besides 920 employees and 48 supervisors were deputed for the immunization programme in the district.
BUDGAM: The drive was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmad at Aga Syed Yousf Memorial district hospital. About 1,03,359 children are target of the anti-polio drive in the district for which 2,252 workers and volunteers have been deployed at612 booths including nine transit teams as well.
ANANTNAG: District Development Commissioner, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah,launched the drive with an aim to eradicate the disease from the district by administering drops to children at Maternity and Child Care hospital Anantnag in which 1,35,734 would be immunized. For successful conduct of the drive, 2,663 employees including health workers, ASHA workers, Anganwari workers and teachers have been deployed at 634booths. Meanwhile, 40 volunteers of Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline participated in pulse polio immunization programme and administered polio drops to around 5000 children in 14 polio booths and children travellimg in vehicles on national highway road Bijbehara under the jurisdiction of Sub District Hospital Bijbehara, Anantnag.
BARAMULLA: The anti-polio drive was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Dr. Nassir Ahmad Naqash, who gave oral vaccines to a newborn at district hospital. A total of 154879 children are to be immunized during the second phase of the IPPI in the district, for which 776 vaccination booths have been established. As many as 3313 workers including Anganwari, ASHA and volunteers were deployed by the district administration for effective campaign.
KUPWARA: District Development Commissioner GM Dar kicked-off the pulse polio campaign at sub-district hospital where he administered vaccines to newborns. It was said that 1,36,262 children would be covered under the programme for which 720 polio booths and 3083 employees and volunteers along with supervisory staff have been engaged for successful conduct of the drive.
BANDIPORA: the second round of the anti-polio campaign was launched by kickboxing champion Tajamul Islam in presence of CMO and other officials by administering vaccines to children at district hospital. A total of 62106 children under the age of 5 years are target of the drive. It was said that 325 vaccination booths and 5 transit points have been established in the district for which 1300 workers from Health, ICDS, Education Department and volunteers along with supervisors have been deployed in the district.
