JAMMU, Feb 2: National Conference (NC) general secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that political stalemate in the wake of fractured mandate during the highly polarized Assembly elections has established the fact that only secular forces can pull the diverse regions of Jammu and Kashmir together as a strong and vibrant single entity.
“The reactionary and divisive forces might have got away with polarizing and vitiating the democratic process but the damage done in the process has put the State at cross roads of its political history”, Sagar said while addressing a meeting of the party functionaries from Doda and Ramban districts at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan.
The meeting, held to discuss the performance of NC during the elections, was attended among others by provincial president, Jammu, Devender Singh Rana.
Sagar said the mandate has put the PDP and BJP in a dilemma as the people have realized their sinister game-plan of dividing the regions on religious lines to remain glued to power. “In enthusiastic pursuit of grabbing power, they employed all tactics to hoodwink public opinion and mislead them during the elections”, he said.
On the contrary, Sagar said, the NC remained steadfast in its approach and carried out its electoral campaign in consonance with the sensitivities of the State. “We may not have fared well but we did not compromise on its principled stand of upholding secular values and maintaining the single entity of the State”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial president exuded confidence that NC will bounce back with matching force at the strength of its well-knit cadre and visibility in all the three regions. He said the foremost job of the party functionaries would be to introspect and identify the gray areas, which needed to be addressed on priority.
