Sir,
This has reference to the killing of a Sarpanch in Sopore by the militants.
The killing of the Sarpanch once again reinforces the belief that the State Government has done nothing substantial to provide security to Sarpanch who defied militant diktats a number of times. As a result, many Sarpanch paid a heavy price for it. Many were killed. As the Government could not provide them security, some of them tendered resignations. The Government as a fire fighting measured assured them that their concerns will be taken care of. The killing of the Panch, however, proves that assurances have remained undressed and mere a rehtoric.
The Government should take certain measures to instil a sense of confidence and security among Panchs and Sarpanchs. Only then the dream of Panchayati Raj may fructify in this trouble torn State.
Yours etc…
