Secy Civil Aviation reviews progress on expansion of Jammu Airport

JAMMU, Sept 4: Secretary Civil Aviation Department, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, today chaired a meeting to review the progress on the expansion of Jammu Airport.
The meeting was attended by Sanjeev Kumar Garg, Director Airport Authority, D.S Daneil Director CISF, Waheeda Parveen, Director Animal Husbandry, Rajesh Gupta, Chief Engineer Jammu, Vidhushi Sharma Addl. Secretary, CAD, Vivek Attri ACR Jammu, Bilal Rashid DD Planning CAD, CEO Cantonment Board, Jammu, Sub-Div. Magistrate South and other senior officers from Civil Aviation, Technical wing and PW(R&B) Department.
Director Airport Authority, Sanjeev Kumar Garg gave a detailed presentation and apprised the chair that expansion work of the Jammu Airport is in progress and the same has been divided in 02 packages.
Construction of New Civil Enclave at Jammu Airport being executed at a cost of Rs. 469 crore and construction of apron & associated works for parking of 13 Nos AB -321 type of Aircraft, at a cost of Rs. 42 crore, he informed.
The work for both the Phases had been awarded few months ago and the 8 % of the physical work stands completed in respect of Part-1 of the prestigious project. For the 2nd part, it was apprised to the chair that mobilization of resources is going on.
While seeking the status of different facets of the prestigious project, the Secretary Aijaz Asad, directed the concerned officers to further step efforts to accelerate the pace of progress on these vital works so that the project is completed within the fixed timelines. He asked them to remove the impediments, if any, in the expeditious execution of this airport expansion project to avoid any kind of delay in its timely completion.
He reiterated that with the completion of project, seating capacity shall be enhanced to 960 pax, the car parking at the airport shall be increased from 150 to 700, besides this the Check In Counters shall be increased from 20 to 54 along with the increase in number of kiosks, which shall facilitate the general public at large. Construction of 2 number of 23 m wide Link Taxi ways along with the elevated road spread over 98 pillars and construction of 13 number Apron/Parking bays, 11 X-BIS Machines are part of project, he told.
He also asked the Project Manager, to ensure the provisions for the Physically Challenged Persons, during the construction like ramps, Braille enabled paths, sufficient lifts, escalators, etc, so that no one should face inconvenience in travelling.
On the appraisal that, out of 68 structures of the Animal Husbandry Department, 15 structures of poultry & breeding farms have not been vacated yet and removed, the Secretary directed the Animal Husbandry Department to shift the poultry & breeding farm to Nagrota and hand over the farm area to AAI.
He also instructed the Chief Engineer, PW(R&B) Department, to immediately complete the balance construction work by November 2024, so that shifting may take place. He asked them to expedite the pace of the work and hand over the structures to the Airport Authority, so that the area could be utilized properly for the expansion of the airport.
Taking the cognizance of the issue of construction of structures near the boundary wall of the airport, Secretary immediately issued directions to the SDM concerned and CEO Cantonment Board, to immediately visit the spot and take appropriate action, to ensure the safety and security at the airport. He said that, no illegal construction work should be done in and around a hundred meters of the boundary wall of the airport area.
