JAMMU, Sept 21: Secretary Animal & Sheep Husbandry/ Fisheries, Science and Technology Department, Satish Nehru made extensive tour of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
On the way to Poonch the Secretary and Director Animal Husbandry Department Jammu Dr. S.L Bhagat interacted with prominent dairy farmers and sarpanches at Surankote. Farmers demanded subsidized fodder to be arranged during winter seasons when there is scarcity of fodder.
He also visited District Veterinary Hospital Poonch and advised the doctors to work hard with zeal and dedication so as to provide every possible help to the livestock breeders. The Secretary also visited Dairy Cooperative Society at Kanuian where 55 cross bred dairy animals are reared on scientific basis.
Secretary also visited the silo pit at village Jullas and fish pond in Poonch town along with the Joint Director Fisheries. He advised the Department to motivate the farmers to go for fish farming which has large scope in present arena of food scarcity.
Later, he held deliberations with the District Development Commissioner Poonch regarding ongoing construction works of Animal Husbandry Department and distribution of solar lights to the public affected in border firing.
The Secretary was also informed that Department is trying to devise Area specific mineral mixtures depending upon mineral deficiency in the soil. The Secretary advised the officers of the Department to devise and develop the means and ways of increasing milk, meat and egg production so that we can not only meet our requirements but also make footsteps in exports of these commodities.
