SRINAGAR, May 9: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department (SWD), Sheetal Nanda visited Abhinandan Home, Solina, which is a special school run by the Department for special children of the Valley.
During her visit, Sheetal Nanda took a firsthand assessment of facilities available at the special school and requirements of the school for children with special needs. She also held a detailed interaction with the staff and management, besides interaction with the students of the school.
Assistant Director (Directorate of Social Welfare Kashmir) Arjumand Yaqoob and District Social Welfare Officer Srinagar Dr Mukhtar Ahmad accompanied and briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the developments made in Abhedananda Home since last one year.
After taking a review of all facilities provided in the School, The Commissioner Secretary highlighted some more measures to be taken for the welfare of the disabled (special) children studying there and asked the concerned to take the necessary arrangement in this regard. She stressed the staff to work with added zeal and dedication besides treat the students in compassionate manner.
Later, the Commissioner Secretary visited the offices of the Mission Shakti Srinagar viz-a-viz District Hub for Empowerment of Women and One Stop Centre for women. The Commissioner Secretary conducted the review of overall functioning of both the offices.
Centre Administrator OSC informed Sheetal Nanda about the total number of registered cases of domestic violence for the Financial Year 2023-24 and also about the number of cases resolved in real time. Similarly, the Commissioner Secretary visited the SANKALP-Hub for Empowerment of Women where District Mission Coordinator DHEW Srinagar briefed her about the functioning of the office.
Sheetal Nanda emphasized the significance of providing a nurturing and welcoming environment to the victims of domestic violence. She stressed to treat the victims in a compassionate way and ensure their issues are resolved in a time bound manner.
With regard to upgradation of infrastructure, the Commissioner Secretary asked the District Social Welfare Officer to take up the necessary actions/arrangements with the District Administration for the same.
