Seizure of heroin worth Rs 255 crore smuggled from Pakistan

NEW DELHI :  Heroin worth over Rs 255 crore, which was smuggled in from Pakistan, was today seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.

Acting on an intelligence input, the officials arrested a person with 51 kg of heroin at Harike Pattan under Tarn Taran district. The market value of seized heroin is about Rs 255 crore, official sources said.

The accused, a native of Chak Suwah Wala in Fazilka district, was carrying the contraband in two white gunny bags. He has been arrested by DRI officials.

The contraband has been smuggled from Pakistan as the gunny bags had Urdu stamps and other markings, they claimed.

The officials also recovered 42 live cartridges and two magazines from him, the sources said. (agencies)
