‘Selection list of 371 doctors shortly, rural areas on priority’

JAMMU, Feb 9: Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat today claimed that selection list of 371 doctors including specialists is being released by Public Service Commission shortly  and rural area hospitals will be given priority while making their postings.
While replying to the question and subsequent supplementaries of BJP member Pardeep Sharma in the Upper House today, the Health Minister said that Poonch hospital and other health centres in such rural and far flung areas will be given preference while posting these doctors. The Minister said that PSC has almost completed the selection process and the list is expected shortly may be by the third week or ending of this month.
Bhagat further  said that the vacant posts in the hospitals in rural and hilly areas would be filled on priority to provide better healthcare facilities to the people living in these areas.
He further said that there is sufficient quantity of medicines available in every hospital across the State under Free Drug Policy. The vacant posts of the doctors/para-medical staff have been referred to PSC/SSRB for selection, he added.
BJP MLC from Poonch  said that there was no Radiologist in Poonch hospital besides posts of several  specialists were lying vacant. The public was suffering badly. “What was the fault of the people from Poonch who are deprived of adequate medical staff?”  he asked.
The Minister replied that there was shortage of Radiologists in the State. Some doctors have been given training so that they could operate  the equipment/ machines in rural and sub-urban hospitals.  He said two technicians have been trained in District Hospital, Poonch to handle the CT Scan machine. Nine ambulances including one Critical Care Ambulance are also available in the hospital, he added.
