Srinagar, Sept 10 The Chairman Services Selection Board (SSB) today assured the High Court that the selection process of Assistant Information Officers (AIOs) shall be completed within three months.
Chairman SSB Khalid Jehangir, In terms of order dated 06.09.2021 was present before the court today to explain his position as to why the judgment of 2013 with regard to selection AIOs was not implemented till date.
The SSB, Division Bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice V C Koul said, ought to have proceeded with the selection of Assistant Information Officer Grade-II but the process of selection for the posts had remained pending for more than 8 years.
Court said the Board has not shown any progress in this matter till date. The Chairman was present in the Court and sought permission to place on record the status report in compliance to the order dated 06.09.2021. Court took the Status report on record.
DB after having heard the Chairman, Service Selection Board satisfied with the progress shown and delay occasioned in selection process substantiated with reasons. “We have examined the status report and found that the Board is taking selection process to its logical conclusion”, court said.
Court has been ensured by the Chairman that the completion of selection process be made within the shortest period of time. Three months’ time as sought for is granted. The officer present need not to appear on the next date of hearing”, Court directed.
Court on last hearing had reprimanded the Services Selection Board (SSB) for its lackadaisical approach in implementing the final judgment and had sought personal appearance of Chairman (SSB) before for today in the matter. Court was hearing a contempt petition seeking implementation of DB verdict whereby the court had declared the selection process of 29 Assistant information officers by SSB as invalid. The High Court had directed the recruitment board to expeditiously conclude the process of selection for the posts of Assistant Information Officers fresh and report the court in the shape of status report.
