Selective macadamization irks residents in Pampore

Srinagar, Nov 2: Residents of Khanakahbagh, a Pampore hamlet in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, have accused the Roads and Buildings Department of carrying out selective macadamization of the town’s roads.
Although the department blacktopped roads in various places, residents said that a crucial road link connecting their locality through the Konposh hospital was overlooked, despite the fact that the macadamisation was approved three years ago.
“The road was fixed three years ago, but macadamization was not completed owing to inclement weather,” a local said.
The macadamization was supposed to take place the following year, however, it did not take place. “Since then, multiple roads have been macadamized. The local representatives are macadamizing the areas for political reasons,” he said.
People said that they highlighted the issue of road maintenance and macadamization in a Back to Village programme and were guaranteed that the road will be fixed very soon. “We were informed last year that the road would be macadamized for the next season, but that didn’t happen,” Majid Ahmad, a local, said.
An official, on the other hand, said that the road was not in the plans for this year. “We will macadamize the road next year,” he said.
