Srinagar, Apr 26: In a shocking incident, a self-styled godman brutally attacked an elderly woman today with an axe at Handwara area of Kupwara district, resulting in her death. He was later arrested by police.

According to reports, the brutal incident took place in the Chogal area of Handwara in Kupwara district.
Eyewitnesses stated that the victim, identified as Atiqa Begum, 60, wife of Late Abdul Rehman Lone, had visited the self-proclaimed deity, Ghulam Rasool, also known as ‘Las Babb’, when she was allegedly assaulted multiple times on her head with an axe.
The assault left Atiqa severely injured, prompting her immediate evacuation to GMC Handwara for urgent medical attention.
However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to SKIMS Soura. Tragically, she passed away while enroute to the hospital.
A police official confirmed that the self-styled godman has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.
