JAMMU, Sept 24: One-day seminar on “Kunwar Viyogi – Ik Chetein Di Ladi” was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Dogri in collaboration with Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust, here this morning at Jammu University.
A galaxy of writers, intellectuals, associates and relatives of Sahitya Akademi Award winning Dogri writer Kunwar Viyogi, students, scholars, teachers and officers of Jammu University and prominent citizens were present in the function, wherein JU Vice-Chancellor Prof M K Dhar was the chief guest while Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust, presided over the event.
On the occasion, Kunwar Viyogi Scholarships, instituted by the Trust for two toppers of MA Dogri- one male and other female, were also given. This year, Dilbag Verma and Ravina Sharma, toppers of MA Dogri were given the said award. The Trust has also introduced scholarship for the topper of MA English from this year, which was awarded to Simran Khajuria. The award carries a cash award along with citation and a set of Kunwar Viyogi book of Sonnets ‘Paihlyian Bangan.’
Prominent Sahitya Akademi award winning writers Narsingh Dev Jamwal and Mohan Singh, presented papers on the topics “Sonnet Vidya Da Sidhantak Pakkh’ and “Kunwar Viyogi Hunde Sonnet Sahitya Da Vishe Pakkh: Ik Jayja”, respectively.
Trust Chairman Goverdhan Singh Jamwal analyzed the contribution of Kunwar Viyogi who opened new horizons not only in Dogri literature but in the field of Dogra culture also.
VC Prof Manoj K Dhar said that the Department of Dogri, University of Jammu being the only Department in Dogri in the whole country has to become a part for the promotion of this great language. He called upon the younger generation to take extensive research in the Dogri language and its culture as this will prove beneficial for its promotion.
Prof Sushma Sharma, HOD Dogri, highlighted importance and relevance of the programme. Prof. Shiv Dev Singh Manhas presented vote of thanks whereas the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Kusum Tickoo.
