JAMMU, Apr 16: The Department of Urdu, University of Jammu today organized one day national seminar on the topic “Changing Scenario of Urdu Literature”.
Prof Anis Ashfaq, former HoD Urdu, Lucknow University, was the keynote speaker while Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Dr Chaman Lal ad Dr Farhat Shamim also presented detail paper on the subject. The seminar was presided over by noted broadcaster and chairperson Women Commission Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Naheema Ahmed Majoor.
In his thought provoking keynote address, Prof Anis Ashfaq threw light on the changing scenario of Urdu literature from progressive movements to till date. He informed that progressive writers movements projected the realities of life. It produced poets like Sahir Ludhanvi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and many others. In Short Story writing the contribution of Mantoo, Bedi, Ismat and Krishan Chander could not be ignored,” he said adding that after partition, a new trends was seen in the Urdu literature when the writers wrote on the issues pertaining to partition.
In 70’s a Modernism emerged and under this trends emphasis was given on indirect expression to direct expression of literature.
In her presidential address, Naheema Ahmed Mazoor particularly spoke on the literature written in Kashmir by the Urdu writers. She complained that no writer has projected the real situation of Kashmir during the last thirty years and stressed the poets and writers to write about the burning issue of Kashmir.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, HoD Urdu, JU, introduced the resource person to the audience.
The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed while vote of thanks was presented by Dr Farhat Shamim.
