UDHAMPUR, Jan 31: A two-day seminar on “community policing” concluded at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) here today.
A statement said 19 officers of the ranks Sub-Inspector and Inspector participated in the training programme.
Rakesh Sambyal, Chief Prosecuting Officer, SKPA, who served as a Chief Guest on the occasion, said that several democratic countries have prioritised the concept of community policing over the past decades as this concept has emerged as a promising alternative to the traditional model of the law enforcement.
He emphasized that the lack of community policing and effective public relations can render the police force ineffective and distant from the public.
He highlighted that the new concept of community policing views crime control and law and order management as truly participative functions, with the active involvement of the community.
“In this concept, the community collaborates with the police to identify and resolve issues that lead to crime and disorder,” he said.
Gupta advised the participants to consider community policing an integral part of the police functioning.
Eminent speakers who shared their valuable experiences on the occasion included Dr Mahesh Koul, Assistant Professor, Division of Agricultural Economics and ABM, SKUAST, Dr Sarita Sood from the Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, retired DySP Sunmati Gupta, as well as the faculty member of the academy.
While the course was coordinated by Amit Parkash Segal, senior PO HC Randip Singh from SKPA assisted him.
