Seminar on good governance organised

SRINAGAR, Oct 15: A seminar on the subject “Good Governance- Public Finance and Public Accountability” was organised by the Indian Audit and Accounts Department in collaboration with Institute of Public Auditors of India at Srinagar.
Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Chairman, Public Accounts Committee was the chief guest. The members of the State level Audit Advisory Board B B Pandit, Ex-Dy Comptroller and Auditor General, Ashok Bhan, Ex-Direction General of Police, (Prison), J&K were key speakers. Key note address was delivered by the Principal Accountant General Dr. Subash Chandra Pandey.
In his valedictory address Mr Beigh complimented the Audit Department for contibuting to good governance and working without fear and favour. He said that good governance with accountability is one of the basic requirements of Parliamentary democracy and in terms of the Constitution. He remained that last year in its historical judgements/ rulings the Supreme Court of India has stated that the “Audit has an important role to play as an oversight institution to provide integrity assurance to the general public.”
Later in the day a meeting of the State level Audit Advisory Board was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Subhash Chandra Pandey. The external members. B B Pandit, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Ahmad Ali Fayyaz, Dr. Deen Mohd, A K Raina and Rajat Mengi provided the valuable input and advices. The Board reviewed the progress of special audits planned for 2012-13 and 2013-14 and gave suggestions to improve the content coverage and responsiveness to Audit.
