JAMMU, Jan 31: The Department of Punjabi and the Department of Music at Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, in collaboration with Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS) Jammu, organized a one-day seminar on Punjabi sufi poetry.
The event was attended by a large number of intellectuals, writers, artists, teachers and students. Prof Jagdish Singh, Director, Naad Pragaas, Amritsar emphasized in detail on the aspects of the aim of the Seminar viz. reconnecting with the Punjabi sufi poetry and music tradition, as well as exploring its thought process, mystical expression and critical perspectives.
A sufi musical programme was presented in the second segment of the programme where musical presentations based on sufi poetry were sung by local singers- Karanjeet Singh, Assistant Professor JKHED; Harman Singh, student of MAM College; Onkar Singh, alumni of GDC Bishnah; Netra Tickoo of GCW Parade; Vicky Thakur of GDC Bishnah; Jasleen, alumni of GDC Bishnah; Varsha Jamwal, alumni of GCW Parade; Roshini Balgotra of GCW Parade and Ritisha Manhas, student of GCW Parade.
The prominent intellectuals and writers who attended the programme included Dr Baljit Raina (president, PLS), Jang S Verman (press secretary, PLS), Dr Gurpreet Kour (secretary, PLS), Khalid Hussain, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Dr Javaid Rahi, Devinder Singh Vishavnagrik, Swamy Anternirav, Sanjiv Bhasin, Sheikh Mohd Kalyan, Manjeet Singh Kaamra, Balwinder Singh Jammu, Balwinder Singh Deep, Dr Balwinder Kour and Deepak Kumar, representing various literary and cultural organizations, and others.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Randhir Kour, Assistant Professor in the Department of Punjabi, GCW Parade while Dr Jasmeen Kour, HoD Music, extended the vote of thanks.
