Seminar on ‘Science & Technology for Human Development’ concludes

JAMMU, Mar 27: National Seminar on “Science and Technology for Human Development” and SAP (UGC) Workshop on “Biodiversity and Conservation: Present Status and Future Perspective” concluded today.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who was chief guest in the valedictory function, said that these kind of seminars are very essential since Bio-diversity is being lost at a very alarming rate. He stressed that the foundations of scientific temperament should be laid in at the grass root level, especially among the children.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor JU, in his presidential address, emphasized on the theme of the seminar and hoped that the deliberations held during three day event must have benefited the Scholars and the delegates.
Prof B N Pandey, president, Zoological Society of India, spoke about the advances in Science and Technology and emphasized that there are very less scientists in India due to lack of facilities. He deliberated upon providing more infrastructures to the scientific institutions so that scientists of India can compete with the scientists of the developed countries.
Prof Kuldeep K Sharma, Dean Life Sciences and Convenor of the Seminar/ Workshop, presented the Seminar Report.
Welcome address was presented by Prof Roopma Gandotra, HoD Zoology and Co-Convenor of the Seminar/ Workshop.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof J S Tara of the Department of Zoology and Director, Poonch Campus.
Earlier, day three of the National Seminar/SAP (UGC) Workshop started with the technical sessions. O P Vidhyarthi, Additional PCC, J&K Government, delivered a talk on “Forest, Biodiversity and Environment”. Prof G C Pandey, former Prof and Head, Environmental Sciences Department, RML Awadh University, gave a lecture on “Climate change, Disaster and its risk reduction”.
The lecture was also delivered by Dr Ranvijay Singh, Professor GGM Science College, Jammu who talked on ‘Parasitism and human welfare, Challenges and opportunities”.
The final technical session comprised of the poster presentation from various participants from around different universities and colleges of India.
