JAMMU, July 24: Association of Industries (AoI), Gangyal today organised a seminar on the topic ‘special emphasis on incentives under GST regime in J&K State’.
The seminar was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh along with Kavinder Gupta (Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly), Chander Parkash (Minister for Industries & Commerce), Priya Sethi (MoS for Education, Tourism & Culture), Vikram Randhawa (MLC, Jammu), Vikram Randhawa (MLC, Jammu) and Rajesh Gupta (MLA, Jammu East).
Rajesh Jain (president, AoI Gangyal), SB Abrol (general secretary), Vijay Sharma (secretary), Sanjeev Vig (treasurer) and a large number of prominent industrialists from Jammu participated in the seminar.
During the seminar, speakers said that industry in J&K gives employment to over 4 lakh people directly and an equal number of people indirectly. “This today is in jeopardy as the Government took pains to roll out GST in the State but has been lax in formulating the modality in extending the existing incentives to industry”, they said.
“Something which should have been done prior to roll out of GST is now being worked upon.”, they said, adding, as a result industrial units are finding themselves in a very difficult situation, as they are waiting for the Government to announce the much promised extension of incentives both at the Centre and State level.
The speakers said it is imperative that all the incentives existing prior to GST are extended in toto without which industry will not be able to survive. “We are not asking for any new or additional incentives but only continuation of the existing incentives in a suitable manner in the GST regime”, they added.
In his address, Rajesh Jain urged the Industries Minister to grant ownership rights to those lease holders who are holding the industrial lands for more than 25 years of the first/original allotment. He said this practice of extending ownership rights from ‘lease hold rights’ is being followed in almost all the States of India.
Earlier, Dr Nirmal Singh along with Kavinder Gupta, Chander Parkash Ganga and Priya Sethi inaugurated 50 MVA transformer dedicated to Industrial area, Gangyal.
