JAMMU, Mar 31: The two- day national seminar on ‘Society, Culture and Politics in Jammu and Kashmir’, organized by the Department of Sociology, University of Jammu, concluded today with the valedictory function.
On the occasion, Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, shared his experiences both as a Geographer and a civil servant. He emphasized on learning from differences and diversities and addressing issues of similar nature.
Prof J K Pundir, CCS University, Meerut, in his valedictory address, talked about the dynamics of society, culture and politics in J&K and also mentioned some special features of J&K State.
Prof Lalit Magotra, noted Dogri writer, talked about the diversity in J&K like religious, linguistic, cultural, geographic etc. He said that diversity is a way of life and the law of nature. He emphasized that more the diversity, better the growth.
Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, talked about different aspects of learning processes and how we should move ahead and carry the message of working together forward.
Prof Abha Chauhan, HoD Sociology and Convener of the seminar, highlighted some of the critical issues that emerged during two days seminar. She said that the State of J&K must take advantage of its unique and special status.
Dr Sapna K Sangra, Asstt Professor, Department of Sociology presented a formal vote of thanks.
Earlier, Dr Hema Gandotra, Asstt Professor, Department of Sociology, JU, presented a welcome address. Dr Vishav Raksha, Associate Professor and Co-Convenor of the seminar presented an outline of the entire seminar and gave summary of all the 110 papers presented in the six technical sessions.
