JAMMU, Jan 2: A seminar titled “Cancer and Holistic Ways to Manage It” was organized at the State Cancer Institute (SCI), Jammu, with the aim of raising awareness about cancer, its causes, and methods for holistic management.
Dr Shreyansh Kumar Jain, State Yoga Commissioner, delivered an enlightening session on the science of cancer and effective ways to combat it. He discussed the causes of cancer, which include genetic mutations, unhealthy lifestyles, and exposure to carcinogens, and explained its progression through stages such as rapid cell growth, immune evasion and metastasis.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy Superintendent and Officiating Superintendent of the Hospital, along with Krishna Devi, Matron; Satvinder Kour, Supervisor and other staff members.
Dr Jain emphasized a holistic approach to cancer management, integrating medical interventions such as radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and immunotherapy with natural support systems. He highlighted the importance of lifestyle changes, stress management, and dietary improvements to support recovery.
Yoga and meditation were central to Dr Jain’s presentation. He underscored the benefits of specific yoga asanas like Shavasana, Bhujangasana, Vrikshasana, and Matsyasana, along with pranayama techniques such as Anulom-Vilom, Bhastrika, and Nadi Shodhana. Meditation practices, including guided healing and mindfulness, were also recommended for promoting mental and physical well-being.
Additionally, the session included tips on dietary practices and homemade remedies to boost immunity and detoxify the body. Dr. Jain highlighted the benefits of wheatgrass therapy, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, and coconut water. He advised avoiding processed foods, tobacco, and excessive caffeine while incorporating supplements like turmeric, tulsi, and aloevera for added benefits.
To further enhance recovery, Dr Jain recommended regular exercise, adequate sleep and stress-free living. He was accompanied by his team members Narinder Wadhera and Mohinder Rana, who contributed to the session’s success.
