Senior Citizens Welfare Council’s plea to CM

JAMMU, Oct 3: All J&K Senior Citizens Welfare Council has appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to order certain decisions for extending a helping hand to elderly people in the State.
In a statement, the Council president Raj Sharma listed four steps, which need to be taken by the Government for welfare of the senior citizens.
For helping the senior citizens, the Social Welfare Department should implement some schemes while Medical Department should take their special care in the hospital besides providing free denture sets to the poor and needy, Raj Sharma said and also demanded that the Traffic Department should make arrangements for ensuring safe crossing of road by the elderly people.
She also appealed the Chief Minister to provide a suitable accommodation to the Welfare Council for its proper functioning.
Pertinent to mention that the Council has been taking a number of initiatives for welfare of elderly people besides managing a Day Care Centre at village Raika Lubana where the senior citizens are provided mid-day meal and other facilities like indoor games, music system, television etc.
