MENDHAR, July 20: A case has been registered against four persons for attack on a senior journalist and his wife at Kottan village, in Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district. The scribe had gone to the village with wife on July 18, 2023 in connection with mutation proceedings of their ancestral property.
Reports said Shamim Akhtar Kazmi, wife of SMA Kazmi, a senior journalist, had gone to her native place in Mendhar for mutation proceedings of her father’s property at Tehsildar’s office. After the proceedings, she went to her house, where she and her husband were abused and attacked by Bashar Ahmed Mir, a teacher, her cousin and Danish Magray, on the alleged instigation of her two elder brothers namely- Shabbir Ahmed Mir, Aftab Ahmed Mir, on telephone.
A case FIR has been registered against Bashar Ahmed Mir, Danish Magray, Aftab Ahmed Mir and Shabbir Ahmed Mir under Section 452, 382, 336, 323, 504, 506 of Indian Penal Code. SMA Kazmi is a senior journalist who also served as a senior correspondent of the Indian Express newspaper from 1992-1996 in J&K, presently based at Dehradun.
