‘Senior professionals see increased hiring activity in Jan’

NEW DELHI, Feb 8:  Senior professionals saw increased demand during the first month of this year, even as overall hiring momentum slowed down by 4 per cent in January 2017, says a report.

According to the latest RecruiteX – the recruitment index by TimesJobs, professionals with over 20 years of experience have been witnessing remarkable growth of about 10 per cent since November 2016.

The demand for professionals with over 20 years of experience reported a rise of 17 per cent during January 2017. These senior professional have seen a consistent 10 per cent rise in job opportunities during November 2016- January 2017, the report said.

“Focus on infrastructure, technology and manufacturing in the recently announced Finance Budget 2017 is likely to further boost the demand for senior professionals across these sectors,” Times Business Solutions Head of Strategy Nilanjan Roy said.

On the contrary, job opportunities for freshers posted a 10 per cent drop. This category of professionals with less than 2 years of experience has seen a 7 per cent drop in the past three months.

Law and legal services were top hiring sectors for the month, followed by the financial accounting sector.

In terms of profession, biotechnologists and pharmaceutical professionals saw 24 per cent rise in hiring activity in January 2017.

These highly specialised niche professionals have witnessed an average rise of 10 per cent in demand since November 2016.

Roy further noted that most of the jobs are being created are at a ten-fifteen thousand rupees, retail or a call center level. But job opportunities remain scarce for highly skilled workforce. We need to be able to offer them opportunities commensurate with their skills, for India to become a true knowledge economy. (PTI)
