Sensex crashes at 692.89 points

MUMBAI, Aug 13: The BSE Sensex on Tuesday dropped further by 692.89 points to settle at 78,956.03 as heavy selling pressure was seen in commodities, financial services, bankex, and telecom stocks, along with a positive Asian market.

 

 

 

 

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) dropped 208 points to 24,139.

 

 

 

 

The equity market remained under pressure for the whole session as the Sensex slipped 375 points to open at 79,330.12 points. During the day, it tanked 916 pts at 78,889.38, days low, before closing at 78,956.03, slumping 692.89 pts from its previous close.

 

 

 

 

 

The stocks that kept the market low were commodities by 1.84 pc, telecommunications by 1.82 pc, financial services by 1.73 pc, and bankex by 1.45 pc.

 

 

 

 

The mid cap fell by 0.98 pc and the small cap by 1.16 pc.

 

 

 

 

In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined.

 

 

 

 

The losers were HDFC Bank by 3.29 pc to Rs 1606.45, Tata Steel by 2.37 pc to Rs 148.45, Bajaj Finance by 2.02 pc to Rs 6477, SBI by 1.97 pc to Rs 796.95, and Tata Motors by 1.92 pc to Rs 1055.40.

 

 

 

 

The gainers were Titan by 1.80 pc to Rs 3385, HCL Technology by 0.57 pc to Rs 1593.65, Nestle India Ltd by 0.36 pc to Rs 2482, and Sun Pharma by 0.26 pc to Rs 1737.20.

 

 

 

 

In the Asian Market, Strait Times were up 0.71 p.c., Hang Seng was up 0.36 p.c., and Taiwan weighted by 0.11 p.c. (UNI)
