Mumbai, Aug 22 : The BSE Sensex on Tuesday ended almost steady at 65,220.03, rising 3.94 pts as renewed buying was seen in telecommunications, power, and industrial stocks.
The Nifty too gained 2.85 points to 19,396.45.
The market remained sluggish during the day, as it opened at 65,272.42, up 56 points. It surged 146 pts to 65,362.91, a day high, before closing at 65,220.03, gaining 3.94 pts from its previous close.
Meanwhile, it dropped 51 points to 65,165.45, a day’s low.
The stocks that kept the market up were telecommunications, which moved up by 2.10 percent, followed by utilities by 1.58 percent, power by 1.44 percent, and industrials by 1.16 percent.
The midcap increased by 0.94 percent and the small cap by 0.89 percent.
In 31 scrips, 14 advanced, 16 declined, and one remained unchanged.
The gainers were NTPC by 1.45 pc to Rs 221.85, M&M by 0.85 pc to Rs 1551.75, Wipro by 0.60 pc to Rs 416.35, L&T by 0.60 pc to Rs 2679.75, and Axis Bank by 0.58 pc to Rs 958.
The losers were Jio Financial Services by 4.99 percent to Rs 237.20, Bajaj Finserv by 0.61 percent to Rs 1469.50, SBI by 0.57 percent to Rs 568.20, and ICICI Bank by 0.54 percent to Rs 949.50.
