Sensex makes new record high; ends marginally higher at 81,455.40

MUMBAI, July 30 : The BSE Sensex on Tuesday touched a new high of 81,815 level during the intra-day before ending the session with a marginal gain of 99.56 at 81,455.40 points due to buying in auto and  energy stocks.

 

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty rose 21.20 points to close at 24,857.30.

 

The Sensex opened flat at 81,349.28, 6 points down. It slipped 125 points at 81,230.44, days low. But strong buying in heavy weight shares took the BSE Sensex to new record high. But profit booking later erased earlier gains and it ended at 81,455.40 gaining 99.56 points from its previous close.

 

The sectors which outperformed others included Utilities by 1.97 percent, Power by 1.49 percent and Energy by 0.61 percent.

 

The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2474 crore while the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs 5664 crore in the last trading session, according to data available.

 

According to sources in the trading community, the market is likely to remain range bound in the near future as there is no trigger right now for any major movement, positive or negative, in the market.

 

The Mid Cap and Small Cap indices gained 0.27 percent and 0.88 percent respectively. In the 30-scrips index, 17 advanced and 13 declined.

 

The gainers were Tata Motors by 3.39 percent to Rs 1162, NTPC by 3.34 percent to Rs 407, Bajaj Finserv by 2.10 percent to Rs 1651.30, Powergrid by 2.04 percent to Rs 349.40 and Titan by 1.75 percent to Rs 3472.

 

The losers were Sun Pharma by 1.56 percent to Rs 1697.20, ITC by 1.11 percent to Rs 490.40, Hind Unilever by 0.87 percent to Rs 2691.40 and Bharti Airtel by 0.76 percent to Rs 1469.80.  (UNI)
